The Maltese Carnival Association is concerned about the lack of cooperation and coordination by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts which the Association says is dragging its feet over important issues in next year’s Carnival.

The Association said that carnival traditions should be kept even though some changes are inevitable because of the new Renzo Piano plans for the entrance into Valletta. It said it urgently needs to know what plans the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts has for Carnival 2010 as the Association’s carnival enthusiasts are already preparing for it.

The Association is also against the proposed plan of reducing the number of carnival floats and dance companies. The Association has put forward its own proposal so that the carnival festivities can still be held in Valletta but with a greater emphasis on Floriana especially on Sunday afternoon. The Association is also protesting about the new carnival route as proposed by the Council because it is too narrow and restricted for the carnival floats to manoeuvre properly.

The Association ended by saying that is ready to work hand in hand with the Council so that next year’s carnival will be a success.
