Malta Freeport interested in Croatia terminal
“A number of world-class terminal operators are seriously attracted by the privatization of our company,” said Goran Manfreda, CEO of Jadranska Vrata (Adriatic Gate) j.s.c., which manages Rijeka’s presently unique container terminal located in Brajdica (Croatia).
ITZ have reported that among the companies mentioned were Hamburg-based HHLA, T.O. Delta of Maneschi, Dubai (UAE)-based DP World, Germany’s Eurogate, and Malta Freeport Terminals, owned by France’s CMA CGM.
Some months ago the Croatian parliament granted the operating licence extension to 2041 requiring that a strategic partner (not necessarily with a majority stake) be found for Jadranska Vrata, presently totally owned by the port managing company Luka Rijeka, and in turn controlled by the state privatization fund HFP.
ITZ reported that this scheme is part of the development project Rijeka Gateway II (RG2), mainly financed by the World Bank and carried out by the port authority.
