Video: Fireworks enthusiasts propose changes in fireworks displays
The Malta Pyrotechnics Association is proposing a number of changes to the future of fireworks in Malta so as to reduce cost and noise. The association is also insisting on a set of clear and uniform application of regulations for all districts.
The association is suggesting that fireworks should not be let off before 9am rather than at 8am as is normally done. It is also suggesting that ground fireworks should stop by midnight rather than at 1am.
Other suggestions include 30 minutes without fireworks during processions and adding 100 metres to the distance for the letting off of fireworks of one burst.
Perhaps the most important proposal by the association is to reduce the maximum dimension of the petard which should be reduced to five inches from six inches, thus reducing noise.
