Choir Viva at Valletta Waterfront
The next event Barocco Cultural Events is organizing is “Choir Viva”. This is in fact a concert by an all-female choir which will be giving a performance at Sagrestia Vault, Valletta Waterfront on Saturday 31st October at 9pm.
Hailing from Trondheim in Norway, Choir Viva was founded in 2002. At the time of its foundation, it consisted of 12 members which grew to 30 in 2009. After a succession of conductors throughout the first years, Viva has been conducted by Ina Cecilie Hjelmersvick Olufsen since 2006. Ms. Olufsen is a professional flautist in the Norwegian Air Force Band.
The choir prides itself in performing various kinds of choral music; contemporary, folk, classical, jazz standards and sacred music. Viva often collaborated with professional musicians and performs regularly in the Trondheim region. Viva has participated in the three choir competitions.
In 2003 and 2006 the choir won first prize in the female choir category at the Midt-Norsk Choir Competition (the Mid-Norwegian Choir Competition). In 2007 Viva received the gold diploma with 25 of 30 points and won second prize in the sacred music category for female choirs at the Musica Munda competition in Riva del Garda, Italy.
The programme which the choir is going to perform is going to be varied; they are going to sing a number of sacred songs such as “Alleluja, Laus et Gloria”, “Salve Regina” and “I will praise you O Lord!”; they will be singing contemporary songs in English and in Norwegian such as “When I fall in love” and also Norwegian tunes and folksongs.
The entrance to Sagrestia Vault is through the chapel at the Valletta Waterfront. Tickets cost €12 and can be bought at the door or else one may book by phoning 79680952, or else send an email to bookings@baroccomalta.com A reception follows the performance.
