The police have arrested two persons after they were found to be in possession of cocaine on Thursday afternoon.

The drugs were found hidden in a room at a hotel in St Paul’s Bay. The room was being occupied by a 41-year-old German woman currently living in Spain. She had just arrived in Malta on a direct flight from Girona on a false identification document.

In her room, the police found 420g of cocaine in 12 small capsules and another 300g of cocaine in one large capsule. At the time of her arrest the woman was carrying another 18 capsules in her stomach for a total of around 600g of cocaine brought into Malta illegally.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Nigerian man living in St Paul’s Bay who was supposed to have received those drugs from the woman. Both the man and the woman are expected to be arraigned in court with a couple of days. 

In another drugs-related case, a 56-year-old Romanian currently living in Spain was arrested at the airport after he was found to be in possession of cocaine. The man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after he was stopped by Customs officials after he appeared to be acting in a suspicious manner. The man had just landed in Malta on a direct flight from Dusseldorf in Germany.

A body search revealed he was carrying over 1km of cocaine in the false soles of his shoes. It seems it was not the first time this man had come to Malta. The Rumanian is expected to be charged in court later on Friday.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Adrian Bianchi from Qormi was sentenced to six years in prison and fined €7,000 after he was found guilty of involuntary homicide. Bianchi was found guilty of giving drugs to Jason Sammut who had been found dead from a drug overdoes at his home.
