The song Tal-Ahhar with lyrics and music written by Corazon Mizzi, won the 2009 Għanja tal-Poplu Festival which was held on Saturday 28th November. The song which speaks about the relationship between a separated couple was interpreted by Corazon and Walter Micallef.

Frank O’Neill classified in second place with the song Irrid Ngħix il-Poeżija which he wrote and composed himself. Christabelle Curmi accompanied Frank.

The song Attent won the third place, with lyrics and music by Antonio Olivari D’Emanuele and sung by Justin Galea.

X-Tend won the prize for best interpretation with Niċċelebraw il-Festa Taghna while Teddie Zammit won the prize for best social theme thanks to his song Agħtuni Ċans.

As last year, participants were accompanied by live music.
