Video: Ex-policeman jailed for 16 years and fined €40,000

31-year-old Jean Pierre Abdilla, a former policeman, was given a 16-year jail term and fined €40,000 after he was found guilty of conspiring to deal in heroin, drug trafficking and breaching administrative law enforcement regulations.
These past few days, Jean Pierre Abdilla, was undergoing trial on heroin trafficking charges together with other charges including the possession and sale of protected birds and with trying to bribe a Customs officer.
Mr Abdilla had resigned from the police corps around 1st May 2005 after he had begun to be investigated by the police in March 2005. He was also found guilty of committing a crime he was duty bound to prevent as a policeman.
