The death has been announced of Dr Daniel Piscopo, an ex-Labour minister in the Dom Mintoff cabinet. He was 89 years old.
Dr Piscopo was born in Cospicua on 11th February 1920. He entered politics in 1947 and served as an MP between 1950 and 1981.
He served as Minister of Health from 1971 to 1974, Minister of Posts, Electricity and Communications from 1974 to 1975 and Minister of Tourism Minister from 1976 to 1978.
The Labour Party paid tribute to Dr Piscopo by praising his efforts to improve psychiatric care and to modernise hospital services.
Dr Piscopo is survived by his wife Mary and his three sons Peter, Ivan and Vincent.
