The President, Prime Minister and Archbishop of Malta have sent warm Christmas and New Year greetings to all Maltese. The messages of President Abela and Prime Minister Gonzi were televised on PBS on Christmas Eve.

President George Abela said that Christmas is part of our Christian and European tradition and is the origin of our traditional Christian values. The President also hoped that next year will be a better year for all as Malta starts to pull out of the recession.

The President urged all Maltese to work to the full and to respect the environment and all people, irrespective of race or religion. He also referred to the Pope’s visit next April which he said is a good opportunity for all Maltese to renew their Christian values.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi also spoke about the economic crisis, the Pope’s visit and our traditions and values, but in particular emphasised the value of solidarity in which no one is to be excluded.

The Prime Minister said that the government will be doing its utmost next year in continuing to promote an inclusive society and to attract more investment and to create more job opportunities .

On the other hand, Archbishop Paul Cremona focused his attention on the crib which he said can be the centre point of our lives as one should try and see Jesus in every person one meets.
