Night of accidents over the New Year
A number of traffic accidents occurred on New Year’s Eve and early on Friday morning with various people injured in Malta and Gozo, police reported.
Late on Thursday night, a 28-year-old man from Victoria who was slightly injured when he was involved in a road accident in Mgarr Road Qala.
The most serious accident happened in Burmarrad Road in St Paul’s Bay where a 19-year-old was seriously injured after his Toyota car and a Land Rover driven by a 48-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay were involved in a head-on collision.
Another accident occurred in Santa Lucija Avenue in Paola at around 05:.45 CET on Friday, when a 29-year-old man from Zejtun was slightly injured after he lost control of his car, which overturned after crashing into an electricity pole.
Another similar accident occurred in Mosta Road in Lija when a 40-year-old man from Naxxar drove into an electricity pole when he lost control of the car he was driving. Although his car was extensively damaged, the man was not injured.
Yet another accident occurred in Wied il-Ghajn Road in Zabbar at around 05:30 CET on Friday when an Opel and a Fiat Punto collided. Various people were injured in this accident including four who are being kept in hospital.
