Briton pleads not guilty to €100,000 heist
A 31-year-old Briton, Paul Michael Kavanagh, who lives in Attard has pleaded not guilty to stealing €100,000 worth of gold and diamonds in a hold-up at a jewellery shop in St. Julian’s. The man was charged with stealing diamonds, gold and a small amount of cash during a holdup at Classic Jewellers in St. Julian’s on 14th December.
He was also charged with holding Noella Xuereb against her will and being possession of a firearm and ammunition during the hold-up. He was further accused of stealing a motorcycle and a number plate from San Gwann. The man pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Meanwhile, 27-year-old Jonathan Calleja from Kalkara was charged with threatening to kill his father last Tuesday. The incident took place in the evening in Gharghur when an argument broke out between them and blows were exchanged while they were drinking in a football club . The son also allegedly called his father at his home in Madliena later on and again threatened to kill him.
In yet another court case, a 40-year-old Egyptian man, Ahmed El Fadali Enan, was charged with drug trafficking in a case involving a Maltese man called Tano Farrugia who was recently arrested in Tunisia.
The Egyptian, who has been living in Malta for the past 17 years, was charged with conspiring to import 50kg of cannabis to Malta, allegedly in connection with Mr Farrugia, 32, who is well known in Malta because he used to play for Msida St Joseph.
