Journalists call for revision of freedom of expression laws
Posted on January 19th, 2010
The Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) has called on the government to update current archaic laws on the freedom of expression, so as to reflect the realities of today’s world and to conform with European Union laws.
The updating of such laws is necessary so as to avoid criminal proceedings being taken which could even end in a jail sentence.
The IĠM has also elected a new Council for 2010 consisting of Malcolm J. Naudi (Chairman), Joe A. Vella (Secretary) and Mario Schiavone (Treasurer). The other elected members are Carmel Camenzuli, Julia Farrugia, Charlot Zahra and Charles Flores. Keith Demicoli was elected to the Council as a representative from the Youth Movement.
