Maltese lira, cent and mil coins, which ceased to be legal tender after 31st January 2008 can only be exchanged until 1st February 2010 at the Central Bank of Malta Annexe, St James’s Counterguard, Valletta, from Monday to Friday between 08:30 CET and 13:00 CET, with entrance from next to the bus terminus or from Girolamo Cassar Avenue.
Currently 159 million of these coins with a value of MTL11 million (EUR25.62 million) are still in circulation. The Central Bank of Malta will continue to exchange Maltese lira banknotes until 31st January 2018.
