An average of over one person per day was reported missing in Malta in 2009. In fact, according to Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici, a total of 391 people, 27 of whom have not yet been found, were reported missing.

However, criminology experts indicate that this is a much inflated figure, especially when according to the police only one person reported missing in 2009 has still not yet been found.
