Five men from Malta, Algeria and Tunisia have been found to make part of an international drug trafficking ring, The Times reports.

32 year old Tano Farrugia confessed that he was trying to export the 50 kilos of cannabis that was found in his hotel room on 10th January in Nabeul. He admitted this in a Tunisiam court, where he has still to be sentenced. According to The Times, Mr Farrugia also stated that there were four other men involved in this international drug tafficking ring.

The Times gives details about how Mr Farrugia told the court that this was the first time that he has been involved in drug dealing, and he only did it because he was desperate for cash. Information from the police shows that the cannabis found in Mr Farrugia’s possession was intended for Malta and consisted of about 100 one-foot-long blocks. At the moment, Mr Farrugia is being detained at Grombalia prison until he is sentenced.

Two weeks ago, Ahmed El Fadali Enan from Egypt, was charged in Malta with the plans of importing the cannabis that he would have received from Mr Farrugia, The Times reports. However he pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.
