Fuel prices increase
Enemalta Corporation has just announced an increase in fuel prices, which is expected to come into effect on February 1st 2010.
This upward revision reflects the prices paid by the corporation for the latest shipments of imported fuel. Previous revisions were based on December levels, while the January unleaded delivery was based on January Platts average levels, which results in an increase in price. Unfavourable change in the exchange rate is also a factor for the increase of the unleaded price.
The slight increase in the diesel price is the result of the dollar fluctuations during the first month of the year, since Enemalta has purchased a considerable diesel shipment in December, which meant that the corporation was able to keep the stability in the price for diesel.
Enemalta reports that since October 2009, the euro has weakened from highs of $1.50 to lows of $1.40 in January 2010, and such exchange rates have been damaging to Enemalta’s retail product purchases.
Petrol prices (CIF Med, Prem Unl 10ppm) increased by 6% from an average price of $680.05/MT in December to an average level of $721.18/MT in January, while Diesel prices (CIF Med, Diesel 10 ppm) increased by 4.4% from an average level of $627.05/MT in December to an average price of $654.75/MT in January.
