The Archbishop of Malta Pawlu Cremona warned of the danger of the values of the Maltese collapsing “when under pressure” to align with other countries in the European Union where abortion and euthanasia are concerned.

In his message on the occasion of Pro-Life day, Mgr Cremona insisted that “Malta should never align itself with the rest of Europe on the very important moral values of life we’re lucky that we still have in Malta. One has to decide which is more important; a baby’s or a sick person’s life?  Or is it the fear of having different values from other countries? ”

“Malta should be proud that unlike other countries, it protects life from the beginning to the very end,” he said.

He stated that people do not only celebrate the beauty of life, but are also thankful to have Life as a gift from God.  This clearly shows that no person, especially a Catholic one should ever be in favour of anything that kills or annihilates life.

The Archbishop maintained that on this special day, everyone should learn how to appreciate values supporting life.  Every nation should determine the values that they’re attributing to life and ought to find out what they’re doing not only to guard and protect life but also to promote life as a value in itself.  That is when life actually becomes ‘Life’.  We should praise the Lord for having such beautiful moments in life, such as in education, health and the quality of life.

The Archbishop said that in other countries around the world, abortion and euthanasia have become legal and life is given less of a value.  A person’s question of whether to live or die is in his or her control or another’s, rather than in God’s.  A baby’s life while still in the womb does not remain the centre of life, but becomes a burden for those who have other problems in life.
