Posted on March 16th, 2010
Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono announced the opening to public of the ancient tombs found in Kercem in 2009.
The prehistoric tombs were found while excavating close to the parish church. The pottery found in the tombs date to about 3000-2500 BC.
Skeletons were also found in one of the tombs. The Times reports that the Superintendence of National Heritage plan to carbon date the remains while conducting DNA studies on the found skeletons. The tombs have already been scientifically excavated by the superintendence.
There are plans for a permanent museum to be built on site.
