Hunter charged with attempted murder
42-year-old Carmelo Sultana is undergoing a trial by jury over the attempted murder of Constantine Borg from Birkirkara which occurred on 15th April 2006.
Jurors were told that Mr Sultana was hunting for quail at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq when he entered a field which Mr Borg took care of. An argument broke out between the two which resulted in the accused stabbing Mr Borg a number of times with a flick knife. Mr Borg had been in danger of dying but later recovered.
Mr Sultana pleaded not guilty to the charge and added that he had acted in self-defence. Mr Borg said that he did not recognise who had stabbed him and used his own blood to write Mr Sultana’s licence plate number on the bonnet of his van.
Meanwhile, a 43-year-old Christopher Micallef from Mellieha pleaded not guilty to stealing electricity cables from a pumping station at Mizieb on Friday. He was also charged with causing €30,000 in damage, as well as with being a relapser. He was remanded in custody.
In another case, 31-year-old Emanuel Muscat from Mġarr was jailed for three months and fined €234 for supplying heroin at no profit to his friends. Mr Muscat had been arrested on 21st June 2001 when various drug-related items were found on him and in a tool-shed in his residence.
