New Air Malta service to Damascus
Air Malta will start operating a new service to Damascus in Syria as from next month. The Maltese airline will operate twice-weekly flights, increasing to three times weekly in the summer peak season. The flights to Damascus, which will commence on 7th June 2010, will be operated directly every Monday and Friday while the third weekly flight every Wednesday will start as from 14th June.
To celebrate the launch of this new route, Air Malta is offering special fares starting from as little as EUR 79 for a return ticket inclusive of all taxes. This special offer is valid for travel between 7th June and 30th September 2010. Booking and ticketing is to be done by not later than 30th June 2010. Hotel accommodation in Damascus can also be booked through Air Malta’s Flyaway Tours.
Damascus, the Capital of Syria, has a population of around four million people and is an important trading hub of the country. Many sites of interest are found in or near the Old City including the workshops that still make Damask silk brocade, carpets, gold and silver filigree jewellery and inlaid woodwork. Among the many places of attraction in the city, one can find the Citadel of Damascus, St. Thomas’ Gate, the Umayyad Mosque, the South-East minaret known as Mazanet Souk and the Tower of Jesus. For those who like to do some shopping, Souq Hamidiye and Souq Assagha (the gold market) are a must.

No service fees are charged to tickets issued via Air Malta’s portal www.airmalta.com. An additional fee of EUR 5 on each ticket is applicable to all tickets issued from the call centre, while each ticket issued from the airline’s sales office is subject to a EUR 10 service fee.
