Germany has won the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time with its song Satellite sung by 19-year-old Lena. Malta did not take part in the final as Malta’s representative, Thea Garrett, did not go through the semi-final held earlier in the week. The final was held in Oslo.

Turkey’s entrants, maNga, ended up in second place with Rumania in third. Malta gave 12 points to the Azerbaijani singer Safura who took to the stage in a dress that literally lit up like a Christmas tree. Malta classified in 12th place in the first semi-final.

Despite the fact it was not a finalist, Malta did take part in the vote, and gave 12 points to Azerbaijan.

While Malta stood on the side watching the German victory, the hot debate on whether Malta should continue or not to spend a lot of money to take part in the contest without success in recent years continued unabated.
