Malta Music Week & The Isle of MTV arrangements
The Malta Tourism Authority has announced traffic arrangements and other logistics for two important events happening in the coming days.
The Malta Music Week, culminating in the Isle of MTV Malta Special at the Floriana Granaries, kicks off on Sunday 27th June. In an effort to ensure that all activities proceed smoothly with the least possible inconvenience to those attending and to residents of the various localities alike, the Malta Tourism Authority is publishing a preliminary list of traffic arrangements for the various events, as well as some information about other services related to the events.
Sunday 27th June
Venue: St. George’s str. Paceville (off Paceville Sq.)
Event…… Free live concert featuring:
Wayne Micallef; Cruz; Salt; Blue Ash Mondays; Bletchley Park
20:30 – 00:30
Traffic Considerations
No access through St. George’s Street, The regular traffic regulations for Paceville apply as per usual
Tuesday 29th June
Venue: Bay Square Bugibba
Event: Live concert featuring:
Glasshouse; Eve Ransom; Thea; Dana McKeon; Kristina Casolani; Brooke
Time: 20:30 to 00:30
Traffic Considerations:
Bay square, Bugibba, will be closed to traffic from 17:00 hrs to midnight. Traffic will be re-directed as follows:
Cars and Buses coming from Dawret il Gzejjer are to be redirected into Triq ir-Rebbiegha.
Cars and Buses coming from Islet Promenade are to be redirected into Triq il-Halel
Wednesday 30th June
Venue: The Granaries, Floriana (il-Fosos)
Event: Live concert featuring Kid Rock, Kelis, Scissor Sisters and David Guetta
Time: 20:00 hrs onwards
Traffic considerations:
Triq Sarrija, Floriana, will be closed to all traffic from Tuesday 29th June until Thursday 1st July at 5pm, and cleared from parking from Monday the 21st June till the 1st of July. Triq San Publiju, Floriana, will be closed to all passing traffic and cleared from parking from Wednesday 23rd June until Friday 2nd July. Traffic is to pass from Triq Sant Anna or Triq E.S. Tonna into Triq Vincenzo Bugeja and past Police GHQ and the Curia.
Buses:
Buses will operate an extra schedule from 22:00hrs until 01:00 hrs. The price of tickets from 22:00hrs onwards will be Eur. 1.16 to all locations. The bus lane from Pieta’ to Valletta is to be kept clear on the night of the Isle of MTV concert. The area in front of the APS Bank in Triq Sant’Anna, Floriana, is the designated drop-off point for those travelling to the concert on buses or coaches. All Coaches are to park next to the SPCA. Buses will be passing from Triq Sant’ Anna into Vjal Nelson from the 29th June until the 1st July, midday.
Park and Ride :
The Park and Ride service will operate normally. However, the Transport Authority (ADT) will be arranging for extra shuttles depending on demand.
Parking:
Vehicular cars are to make use of the Park and Ride area as much as possible. Cars are to be parked well and within the designated areas as Police will be patrolling the zone.
Access on foot:
Entry to the Granaries will be from the back end via E.S. Tonna Str. or through the Mall in Floriana. There will be no entry into Triq Sarrija or Triq San Publiju from Great Siege Road. Exits will be from Triq Sarrija or Triq San Publiju into Great Siege Road.
Medical Posts:
There will be 2 Medical Posts in the area around the Granaries.
The 1st Medical post is to be situated next to the Catholic Institute, in J.Lopez Street. Another medical post may be found under the Independence Monument, outside The Mall. This Clinic only will also serve as a ‘Lost Persons’ reference point.
Cleansing:
The Cleansing Department will commence cleaning of the streets around the Granaries from 01:00 hrs on Thursday 1st July (immediately after the concert ends) and will continue until all the structures are removed.
Where all events are concerned, the public is urged to be considerate of others at all times and to co-operate fully with law enforcement officials, security staff and stewards. The directives above are preliminary and may possibly be subject to certain changes. More detailed information will be published closer to the date. The Police shall also be publishing formal traffic directives on the Government Gazette.
All logistical arrangements would not be possible without the invaluable co-operation and assistance of: The Malta Police Force, the Civil Protection Department, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Health, The Floriana Local Council and Floriana residents, the Transport Authority (ADT), the Public Transport Association, the Malta Red Cross and the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, amongst others.
