33-year-old Darren Debono from Marsaskala and 48-year-old Vincent Muscat from Birkirkara have been charged with the attempted robbery at the HSBC Centru Ruzar Briffa on 30th June.

The two men were faced with 18 charges including the attempted murder of police officers Kenneth Cinagura and Kurt Gauci together with the theft of a firearm from the bank security officer, keeping three bank officers against their will, causing damage to property and being relapsers. The two men were remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Kenneth Cutajar from Marsalforn was granted bail after being charged with assaulting and slightly injuring a policeman on 6th July in Zebbug Gozo. He was also charged with swearing, breaching the public peace and with being drunk.

The accused pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail against a deposit of €5,000 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.

In another case, 40-year-old Richard Borg from Sliema was jailed for one year sena after he admitted stealing a motorcycle and violating the conditions of previous court sentences.
