Valletta road in Zurrieq reopens
Valletta road in Zurrieq was re-opened to the public on Tuesday evening after a rebuilding investment costing €4.4 million.
This main road leads to Zurrieq and is important for traffic distribution, the investment of €4.4 million was part-financed by the EU funds which paid €3.6 million. In a statement Roads Minister Austin Gatt highlighted the fact that the works finished six weeks ahead on schedule and on budget.
Minister Gatt in the statement also outlined the importance given to security, the pediment of the mentioned street was reinforced to support heavy vehicles and the lighting system was improved.
Since Malta joined the EU €40m had been invested on arterial and distributor roads such as this. After successfully finishing the works on Marsascala roads and Valletta road in Zurrieq evaluation on EU part-financed works, on Garibalidi and Council of Europe roads in Luqa, Marfa Road, Mellieha, another section of the road between Ghajnsielem and Victoria and the first phase of the road from Marsa to the sea passenger terminal, are underway.
Projects to improve Mellieha bypassand Kappara junction and an underpass from December 13 Road to Marsa Creek are also being carried said Minister Gatt. This will involve an investment of €150million and the improvement of 26km of roads by 2013. This year an investment of €4million is being spent on extensive road patching he added.
