Man arraigned after stealing €20,000 in hold up
A 30-year-old man from Sta Venera was arraigned in front in court on Tuesday afternoon in connection with a hold up. The man was accused of stealing €20,000 in cash from an exchange bureau in Paceville on Sunday morning.
The police said 30-year-old Keith Galea was arraigned at around 14:15 hrs CEST in front of Magistrate A Demicoli LL.D. Mr Galea pleaded not guilty to the accusations brought forward.
Apart from stealing €20,000 he is also accused of holding Josef Aquilina against his will while in possession of a non-licensed weapon and the firing of the weapon in an inhabited area and stealing a car the Times reported. Mr Galea was remanded in custody.
The hold up took place on Sunday at around 09:00 hrs CEST at a Fexco exchange bureau opposite Bay Street. Four armed and hooded men entered the bureau and fired two shots to warn customers against entering the premise. A salesman was tied up from the robbers, after stealing the cash they escaped on board of a car which was later found by the police in the Swieqi- San Gwann area. No one was injured during the incident.
