On Sunday morning, five German divers were rescued by an Armed Forces of Malta AUSTAL-class inshore patrol boat (IPB), whilst they were sports diving in the area of ‘’it-Tieqa’’, limits of Dwejra in Gozo.

Police Headquarters alerted the AFM’s Operations’ centre at Luqa Barracks at 11:05 hrs, requesting assistance in the recovery of the five divers who could not make it to shore safely given the force 3 to 4 North to Northwest bad weather blowing in the area at the time.

The AFM Air Wing were immediately alerted to scramble an Alouette rescue-helicopter into the air, as the Maritime Squadron’s IPB, “P-22 “, proceeded at speed to the area.

With local weather conditions found to have the increased strength of force 4 to 5, backing West to Northwest, P-22’s crew successfully managed to take the five German divers onboard and disembark them safely in Mgarr harbour, Gozo.
