A collection of paintings, assemblages, video installations, projections and photos are being shown at the Auberge de France,
Birgu from 17th till 31st of October.

STRATI is a collective Art exhibition of visual research projects carried out by seven Art educators and practising Artists, Carmen Aquilina, Mario Cassar, Olivianne Farrugia, Mark Lughermo, Claire Scicluna, Robert Zahra, Charmaine Zammit.#

On reading a Masters in Art Education at the University of Malta, the mentioned artists embarked on an artistic journey aiming at bridging visual art practice with contemporary art theory.

The variety of works present the journey of inquiry that started off from philosophical and social readings, about two years ago, and sprang into a number of contemporary issues. Among these issues are: identity, death, tensions between the outer and the inner self, human interventions on natural environment, semiotics of recalled signs, mass culture and late capitalism.

Precedent was given to process –conceptual research, thematic inquiry, testing of ideas, a research and understanding of artists and artwork on an international scale and continual valuation – which was often non-linear, reflecting the artists’ influences from the
real world.

These art-based research projects form part of the ongoing research process in the artists’ Masters Course and hence the planned exhibition is not considered as an end to their projects. On the contrary, feedback on the work from all types of audience will generate new lines of thought for their research.

The ultimate goal of their work is to raise arguments about the above mentioned concerns on contemporary society and put these arguments at the core of their future practice.
