The National Statistics Office has reported that in the third quarter this year, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered increases in trips as well as in vehicles and commuters.

In the third quarter this year, commuters between Malta and Gozo increased by 8.4 per cent, totalling 1,351,298 when compared to the corresponding period in 2009. Concurrently, the number of vehicles carried by scheduled vessels went up by 3.9 per cent, totalling 344,457. August saw the highest number of commuters – 500,237 – or 37.0 per cent of the total for this quarter.

The number of trips in the third quarter this year stood at 5,814, an increase of 2.9 per cent over the corresponding period last year. The majority of trips took place in August – 2,066 – or 35.5 per cent of total trips for the period under review.
