Burglars who entered a house in Birkirkara early on Tuesday had to leave empty-handed after a 62-year-old woman woke up and began screaming on seeing them.

The police reported that the foiled burglary occurred at around 01:50 CEST when a number of hooded people entered a home in Triq id-Dejqa. One of the burglars inadvertently woke up the woman who began screaming for help and this scared off the thieves. No one was injured.
