Associates of Renzo Piano in Malta for ‘familiarisation trip’
Posted on December 18th, 2008
Associates in the studios of architect Renzo Piano will be in Malta on a preliminary familiarisation trip, the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications revealed.
Discussions are currently under way with Piano to design the new Valletta City Gate and rebuild the site where the former Royal Opera House is located. This could be rebuilt as the new House of Parliament.
The Ministry said however that there will be no “official” or unofficial presentation of plans for City Gate this week nor any time in the next several weeks. It was reacting to an article in the local media.
The Italian architect had already designed the new City Gate in the early 1990s but his plans were not implemented.
