Archbishop recalls Australia visit in Christmas message to emigrants
In his Christmas message to Maltese emigrants, Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona recalled this year’s experience with various Maltese and Gozitan emigrant communities in Australia.
Mgr Cremona recalled his visit to a chapel in Mackay which was built by the first emigrants in Australia. “It was evident that they wanted Jesus to remain with them wherever they went.”
Like Mary and Joseph, many emigrants and their families were given the strength to pursue their journey and overcome their suffering thanks to Jesus who was born “to be close to people in every circumstance of their life”.
“I tried to imagine how many emigrants on their way to another country were strengthened by Jesus’ presence even thanks to prayer. It was He who gave them the power to continue and make a success out of their decision to go elsewhere.”
Archbishop Mgr Paul Cremona augured Maltese emigrants to allow Jesus to continue living amongst them and to make him known to others. “I augur that His presence will always be with you in thought, prayer, in your words, your way of living, within families, at your place of work and during moments of leisure”.
