The Francis Ebejer Prize has announced a new format. Now the competition also includes radio playwriting. Moreover, a new recognition package for the best text in each category was developed.

The prize is aimed at new and established writers to showcase their plays to a large audience and the creative industry. It seeks to give a strong platform to the most promising pieces of new playwriting in Maltese. This year’s recognition package for the very best works not only includes monetary prizes, but also envisages support to see the winning plays produced and published.

The competition is open to writers of any age, level of experience and nationality. All plays must be written in Maltese. This does not exclude the use of other languages, provided that the main language is Maltese

Writers are asked to submit plays under the following categories:

Category A: Theatre

Category B: Theatre for children/young people (audiences of 16 years old and under)

Category C: Radio plays

A jury of academics, playwrights and other artists will read and shortlist the best works in each category and select the winning plays. The Chairman of the jury for the 2010-2011 Francis Ebejer Prize is Immanuel Mifsud. The members will be announced at the Award Ceremony.
