The HSBC Malta Foundation has committed €100,000 as a donation for L-Istrina 2010, President George Abela, Chairperson of the Malta Community Chest Fund, announced on Thursday.

L-Istrina 2010 will take place on the 26 December. The HSBC Malta Foundation’s cheque will be presented at the beginning of the event to kick start this major annual fundraiser.

The sponsorship was announced in the presence of the Chairperson of the HSBC Malta Foundation Catherine Gonzi, HSBC Malta CEO Alan Richards and board members of the HSBC Malta Foundation at San Anton Palace, Attard.

HSBC has been a strong supporter of the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF). Over the years, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the Foundation has sponsored L-Istrina, donating in excess of €200,000 over the last ten years.

Catherine Gonzi, Chairperson of the HSBC Malta Foundation, said: “The HSBC Malta Foundation appreciates the commitment of the Malta Community Chest Fund towards the well-being of the underprivileged in Maltese society. Although nowadays Community Chest organises a number of campaigns throughout the year, L-Istrina campaign remains the prime fund-raiser.”

Alan Richards, HSBC CEO added that, “as the world’s local bank, HSBC is committed to helping the local community and our ongoing support for L-Istrina reflects our belief in the Malta Community Chest Fund and the vital philanthropic role it plays in helping the less fortunate in Maltese society.”
