Posted on January 12th, 2009
The Armed Forces of Malta are searching for a Maltese diver who on Sunday night was reported as overdue after he had gone diving at Ghajn Tuffieha Bay.
The AFM said Herbert Mercieca , 34 years from Rabat, was reported by his brother Jesmond at 22.25hrs Sunday to the Rescue Co-ordination Centre of the AFM at Luqa Barracks. Despite the adverse weatherconditions prevailing around the Maltese Islands at the time, the AFM’s Operations’ Centre dispatched a search-and-rescue launche and a team of Explosive Ordnance Divers to the area, where they managed to find his diving flaot and harpoon only. Reports indicate his car was also found parked.
The search was expected to resume on Monday morning but the weather is adverse.
