The New Choral Singers are holding their annual Christmas concert entitled ‘Musical Tidings’.

This year there will be two performances, the first will be held on Tuesday, 13th December 2011, at St Publius Parish Church in Floriana at 19:30 CET. The second performance will be held at the Carmelite Priory in Mdina on Tuesday, 20th December 2011 at 19.:30 CET.

As in previous years the Choir will be celebrating the advent of Christmas with a number of traditional carols from around the globe. Always popular with audiences at this particular time of year are ever greens such as ‘Silent Night’, ‘Ninni la tibkiex izjed’, ‘Adeste Fideles’ and many others. The repertoire will also include ‘En Natus Est Emanuel’ by Praetorius, and the upbeat version of ‘While Shepherds Watched’ by Paul Trept from the Spoforths’ Collection.

Accompanying the singers during the performance are Shirley Helleur on the piano, Gino Mule Stagno on organ, whilst Tenor Edward Camilleri will perform as soloist.

The concert of the 13th December being held at St Publius promises to be a special occasion since during the event the Parish Church will be inaugurating a new electronic organ of the renowned Dutch brand “Johannus”. The installation project was over seen by Eng. Robert Buhagiar, who is well versed in the restoration of pipe organs and is also an organist in his own right. Eng. Buhagiar will be also performing solo organ works during the said event.

The New Choral Singers look forward to welcoming their audience to their annual Christmas concerts that this year are being held in aid of Caritas Malta. Therefore, whilst entrance to both concerts is free of charge, a retiring collection will be made in aid of this worthy cause.

This year’s concerts are being supported by AX Foundation, Homes of Quality and Mil Ideas.
