Kurt Calleja with the song “This is the Night” won the Malta Song for Europe on Saturday night and will now represent Malta in the Azerbaijan Eurovision in May.

2012 was the lucky year for Kurt Calleja, 22, who won the local contest after participating for the third year.  When interviewed by timesofmalta.com he said he had been a fan of the eurovision since he was a kid.

Claudia Faniello with the song ‘Pure’ placed second and Amber singing ‘Answer with your eyes’ placed third through a voting process involving both tele-voters and the jurors.

The winning song was announced at the end of a three-hour show at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta’ Qali on Saturday night.
