Former President Censu Tabone passes away

Former President of Malta Censu Tabone passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 98.
He was appointed President of the Republic in 1989 and served for a five year term despite an initial social boycott by the then Labour Opoosition. He was Labour minister in the administration led by George Borg Olivier and later Foreign Minister during the premiership of Eddie Fenech Adami. He was also deputy leader of the Nationalist Party for a number of years.
An ophthalmologist by profession, he worked for the World Health Organisation in Taiwan, Indonesia and Iraq before entering politics.
In November 2011 Dr Tabone celebrated the 70th anniversary of his marriage to Maria.They had eight children, 19 grand children and 24 great grandchildren.
