Migrant critically injured when shot by police

A migrant was critically injured on Friday morning after he was shot by a policeman from the mobile squad. The migrant was chasing the police with a knife near Ghar Hasan, Birzebbuga.
The incident happened at about 07:30hrs CEST. The police confirmed that they were investigating reports about a man who was reported to be sleeping in the area. The man was in fact found in a cave near Ghar Hasan by two policemen.
The man however when asked to leave the cave became aggressive and resisted the police to the extent that pepper spray had to be used.
The man suddenly produced a knife with which he was threatening the police. One of the police then fired a shot at him in self defence.
The migrant is at the intensive care unit at Mater Dei Hospital.
