In April, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went up by 3.4 per cent over the previous month. It went up to 119.48 from 115.57 in March, according to data published by the NSO on Wednesday.

This primarily reflected a periodic increase of 14.5 per cent in the Restaurants and Hotels Index due to higher-priced accommodation services. The Clothing and Footwear Index
registered an increase of 5.7 per cent, mainly due to a seasonal rise in the prices of garments. Higher airfares were the main reason behind an increase of 4.1 per cent in the Transport Index.

In April, the twelve-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.5 per cent, whereas the annual rate of inflation stood at 3.8 per cent.
