The Armed Forces of Malta were involved in a search which led to the interception of a boat carrying 59 migrants south of Malta early on Saturday night.

The migrants, including Syrians, Bangladeshis, Kashmiris, Somalis and Eritreans, were transferred to a patrol boat and were brought to Malta at 09:15hrs CEST on Sunday morning. The boat was carrying 59 migrants, 5 of which were females.

With this arrival the total numbers of migrants entering the country this year total to over 900.
