Two youths, 19 and 21, critical after separate car crashes
A 21-year-old from Mqabba and a 19-year-old from Kalkara are fighting for their lives after they were critically injured in two separate car crashes on Sunday morning.
A 21-year-old man from Mqabba was critically injures in a crash near the Lufthansa hangar at Hal Farrug early on Sunday morning.
The police said the man was driving a Fiat Punto towards Mqabba when he lost control and crashed into a wall at around 02:00hrs CEST.
He was rushed to Mater Dei hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Magistrate Edwina Grima is holding an inquiry.
In a second traffic accident a 19-year-old driver from Kalkara was critically injured when his Toyota crashed into a wall at the Regional Road tunnel at around 07:45hrs CEST on Sunday morning.
The man was rushed to Mater Dei hospital where he is also being trated for life-threatening injuries.
An inquiry is under way.
The road was subsequently closed for traffic.
