Migrants rescued by the AFM

The Armed Forces of Malta coordinatedg the search and rescue of a group of irregular immigrants on Tuesday made up of 49 males and 11 females who claimed to be of Somali and Eritrean origin. They arrived at the Maritime Squadron base at approximately 1230CEST.
A King Air B200 was scrambled into the air after initial reports received by the Operations Centre of the AFM indicated a dinghy carrying third country nationals some 55NM South of Malta.
The group was located by the Maritime Patrol Craft and a Protector class Patrol Boat (P52) was also dispatched to assist in the rescue. Due to deteriorating sea conditions the migrants requested rescue and they were transferred on P52 early Tuesday morning.
