The number of persons registered as unemployed during May stood at 6,698 – an increase of 332, or 5.2 per cent, over the corresponding month last year, the NSO revealed on Tuesday.
Records provided by the Employment and Training Corporation show that during May, the number of persons registering as unemployed in Malta and Gozo stood at 6,023 and 675
respectively. Accordingly, during the twelve-month period to May, the number of registered unemployed went up by 345 on the mainland, but declined by 13 in Gozo.
In December 2011, the registered unemployment rate stood at 4.2 per cent of the labour supply excluding part-timers: 5.0 per cent for men and 2.7 per cent for women.
