Following a sighting of a suspect migrant craft on Wednesday morning by an AFM King Air B 200 aircraft, further investigations revealed that a boat with approximately 40 persons on board was proceeding in a northerly direction.
On being approached by an AFM patrol craft the majority of the persons on board indicated that all was well and they did not require assistance. However, Four of the persons on board requested medical assistance and these persons, including three female adults and one infant, are currently being transferred to Malta to receive medical attention. These arrived at Hay Wharf Base onboard the P23 patrol vessel at 1530hrs.
Migrants onboard are claiming to be from Pakistan, Somalia and Kashmir. The AFM is continuously monitoring the migrant craft to ensure safe passage.
