Eighth Wine Festival in Qormi
The Qormi Wine Festival is back to its eighth consecutive edition, displaying a wide selection of local red, white and rosé wines derived from several grape varieties, provided by Marsovin.
This year’s edition will be held in the heart of the village core, which will be dressed up for the occasion, during Friday 31st August and Saturday 1st September, both days from 20:00 CEST till midnight.
Several wine stalls will be set up along Main Street, Qormi, with St. George’s Parish Church acting as a fitting backdrop to the typical festive setting. Food stalls featuring traditional and Mediterranean cuisine will be also available; food platters on sale at €7 per dish.
Those wishing to try out various wines on offer should purchase a specially-designed souvenir wine glass for the price of €10, which will then be theirs to keep. The challenge is then to try out as many wines as can be! Wines will be served until 11:30pm and those under 17 years of age will not be served any wine, but may still enjoy the events quenching their thirst at the beverages stalls.
Besides food and wine, the festival also sees the participation of more than 90 artists including bands, soloists and folk groups performing on stages. Several exhibitions and competitions will be also held during the two days, including floral and wine competition. Parallel events kick off a week prior to the festival, starting off with a wine-themed exhibition.
Entrance to the Qormi Wine Festival is free of charge. There will be ample parking space. Signs will direct traffic arriving from Zebbug, St. Venera, Ħamrun and Birkirkara.
Qormi is reviving this centuries’ old tradition while creating added attractions for local and foreigners at this time of year. The festival is fast establishing itself in the annual calendar, attracting around 10,000 patrons every year.
The Qormi Wine Festival is once again organised by the Kumitat Festi Esterni San Gorg Martri, Qormi (AD 1919) in collaboration with the Qormi Local Council.
