Cable faults lead to loss of supply
Enemalta has reported that a cable fault affecting the areas of Floriana, Msida, Birkirkara, Swatar, Santa Venera, Pieta and Guardamangia was reported earlier this morning at 02:55 CEST. The supply has now been restored to all affected localities. At 09:32 CEST parts of Floriana and Msida were reenergised, whilst electricity was fully restored at 10:09 CEST.
Enemalta customer care have been receiving calls regarding a 1 minute power cut in parts of Msida, Santa Venera and Birkirkara. This short power cut was due to switching operations.
Whilst regretting every inconvenience caused, Enemalta assures the general public that it has its employees working around the clock to fix these faults in the shortest time possible. Sometimes reconnection is easy as electricity can be supplied from another distribution cable, however sometimes and especially in cases like this of repeated faults on cables supplying the same areas, there is no option but to wait until the cable fault is fixed to restore supply as no alternative source exists. This unfortunately takes longer as it involves locating the damage on a cable which is underground, digging the road and repairing the damaged cable.
In this case the back up cable developed a fault before employees had time to fix the primary and secondary cable. In the meantime, an internal investigation about these events has been launched.
