Young girl rescued by AFM
The Armed Forces of Malta have reported that at around 17:30 CEST on Wednesday, the AFM Operations centre in Luqa received a phone call stating that a yacht with seven persons on board was sinking fast in the area of Ahrax tal- Mellieha. The P32 Patrol vessel sea and an Alouette were dispatched by the AFM in order to assist the persons in distress. An ambulance was also dispatched to the area.
In the meantime, a nearby pleasure craft assisted the persons in distress and reported that a young girl was fighting for her life. She was being administered CPR by a doctor who happened to be on the second boat. The girl resumed breathing and was soon transferred to hospital within minutes by an Alouette III helicopter from Air Wing.
A second person recovered from the sunken yacht required medical attention as well. The latter was transferred by P-32 and taken to Marfa jetty. The patient was transferred to hospital by an awaiting ambulance.
