Posted on August 31st, 2012
The Armed Forces of Malta have reported that at around 1100hrs on Friday morning an AFM Islander Aircraft that was on patrol, sighted a dinghy possibly carrying irregular migrants some 14 NM South West of Malta. The AFM Operation centre immediately diverted the Inshore Patrol Vessel (P 21) to the area. The patrol boat located the dinghy and it was established that it was going adrift without the ability to maneuver. It was therefore decided to take the migrants on board.
The total number of migrants stands at 86, of which 74 are males and 12 females. Four of these females are claiming to be pregnant. The patrol boat P-21 arrived at Haywharf Base at 1545 hrs.
