Eleven irregular migrants brought to shore by the AFM
The Armed Forces of Malta have reported that early on Monday morning, eleven African men were brought ashore by the Armed Forces of Malta. The migrant craft had been intercepted by the AFM’s Inshore Patrol Vessel P22 some 25NM South of Malta. A number of migrants onboard requested assistance while the rest refused assistance and demanded that they continue their journey northwards.
In an effort to calm down the situation, resolve the impasse and prevent the situation from degenerating into one which could endanger the lives of all those on the migrant craft, the P22 Inshore Patrol Vessel embarked the 11 persons that requested assistance. The remaining migrants, approximately 30 persons in total, continued with their journey northwards under AFM supervision. The Gozo-based Patrol Vessel P32 and the Inshore Patrol Vessel P21 also participated in the operation.
