The FDI World Dental Federation. (Federation Dentaire International)declared the12th of September as World Oral Health day. This commemorative day supports the improvement of oral health worldwide, by increasing awareness as well as stressing the impact of oral diseases on general health and well-being.

This is the fourth year that Malta will be organizing such an event to promote oral health. The Dental Public Health Unit of the Superintendence of Public Health in collaboration with the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the University of Malta will be taking part in an outreach event where the main aim is to educate the public on improving their oral health and the link that this has to overall health.

Since 2012 is the European year of Active Ageing information on dental care for the older adult will also be given out. Oral hygiene and diet instructions together with dental advice and some samples which were kindly provided by pharmaceutical companies will be offered and the relationship between a healthy mouth and a healthy lifestyle to lead to an overall improvement in general health will be promoted.

The public is encouraged to attend at Paola Health Centre, Mosta Health Centre, Gzira Health Centre and in front of the Plaza Centre Sliema between 8am and 1pm.
